- José Cura debuts in one of his most relevant signature roles, Samson in Camille Saint-Saëns's Samson et Dalila, at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, London.
- José Cura debuts at the Wiener Staatsoper singing Cavaradossi in Giacomo Puccini's Tosca and sings his first Turiddu in Mascagni's Cavalleria Rusticana at the "Ravenna Festival" in Italy, a performance that was broadcast live on radio and TV. Cura’s interpretation wins him the prestigious Abbiati Prize.
