• José Cura debuts in the Deutsch Oper of Berlin singing Canio in Leoncavallo's Pagliacci.
• He sings at the Opening Ceremony of the World Games in Duisburg, Germany.
• Cura debuts the opera La fanciulla del West at the Royal opera House Covent Garden, London.
• In Italy, Cura conducts the "Toscanini Orchestra" in Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto n.2 and the Second Symphony.


• José Cura wins the prize "Città di Piacenza" Prize and becomes Citizen of Honour of the Italian city. In the same year, the Festival Umberto Giordano, grants him the prize "Città di Baveno".
